Love is Complicated

Posted by Julie Luoma on

This is a block I designed for Quilt Block Mania.  The topic is "romance" so of course hearts came to mind.  As with all of my designs in this series, I wanted to design a pieced block and started to work on a heart mosaic.  However, as I worked along I became fascinated with the possibilities that popped out with a strip pieced heart instead.

Strip pieced heartThe not-so-smooth edges and even the jagged points at the top of my heart remind me that love is not about how perfect and smooth a relationship can be, but rather it's riding the excitement of unexpected turns and rough edges together that truly define love.  It's not easy, but it's always an adventure whether with a spouse, partner, child or parent.

Have fun with this, it's all strip pieced so no paper piecing required.

I do HIGHLY recommend using our AQSR (Adjustable Strip Quilt Ruler) to get fantastic, accurate strips. Any of the available sizes will work.  See it here

A rotating cutting mat is also a very valuable tool to get those angles exactly right.  Ours is the only 18" rotating mat on the market, plus you get a free mini rotating mat with it!  Get yours here

Did you know we have a super easy way to get those 45° angles cut?  Check out our strip ruler

You can download the pattern here

What's So Funny?

Posted by Julie Luoma on

There have been times in 2020 when it's been hard to fine anything to laugh about.  However, a telephone conversation with my friend, Seth Hackler, over at The Hoosier Quilt Company got me laughing one day and we decided to collaborate with a bit of sarcasm.  The ornaments pictured below are the result of that conversation:

And yes, they're for sale!  HERE
